The steamboat Sagamore is docked at the landing at Silver Bay on the eastern shore of Lake George, New York, in this view from about 1906. In the early twentieth century, steamers like the Sagamore carried tourists between the lake's resort hotels and village landings, and the wharf here shows how central these boats were to travel on the lake. The picture was made by the Detroit Publishing Company, which produced large numbers of views of American scenic spots for sale to travelers and publishers. Its large glass plate negative preserves the detail of the pier, the boat, and the shoreline.
