The Sagamore was one of the grand summer hotels on Lake George, built on an island off Bolton Landing, and its long front porch was a signature feature for guests who spent their days on the water and in the shade. Lake George drew wealthy visitors from New York and other eastern cities during the late 1800s and early 1900s, when rail and steamboat travel made the resort region easy to reach. This print comes from the Wittemann Collection, whose photographs record resort life and architecture in that era. The caption card does not give a date, so the exact year the picture was taken is uncertain.
