The Silver Bay Hotel sat on the western shore of Lake George in New York's Adirondack foothills, a spot the Detroit Publishing Company photographed around 1906 as part of its large catalog of American resorts and scenic sites. The company's 8 by 10 inch glass plate negatives were prized for their sharp detail, and its views were widely sold as postcards and travel prints. Lake George had drawn steamboat excursions and summer visitors since the early 1800s, and hotels like this one were central to the region's tourism. The property's later use as a summer conference center adds another layer to its history.
