Silver Bay, on the eastern shore of Lake George in New York's southern Adirondacks, is the setting for this view of a road running along the lake. The picture comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers traveled widely between about 1890 and 1910 recording scenery, towns and resorts for commercial sale. Lake George drew steady numbers of summer visitors during those decades, arriving by steamboat and rail, and roads like this one connected hotels and lakeside properties to the surrounding region. The surviving item is an 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative, a format that captured fine detail in the landscape.
