Island Harbor is a small bay on Lake George in the Adirondack foothills of eastern New York, and this 8 x 10 inch glass negative records it as the lake's resort trade was at its height. In the early 1900s, Lake George drew steamboat excursions and summer visitors to its hotels and camps, and the Detroit Publishing Company sold views like this one to travelers and tourist businesses. The negative bears an inscribed number, 1817, and was given to the Library of Congress by the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1949.
