Rogers' Slide is a steep rock face that runs down to the water of Lake George in the Adirondacks, named for Major Robert Rogers and his rangers. A long-standing account holds that Rogers and his men escaped pursuers during the French and Indian War in 1758 by sliding down its slope, a story that made the spot one of the lake's best-known landmarks. This 8 by 10 inch glass negative dates from between 1900 and 1910 and comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, which photographed scenic American places for travel promotion and postcards during those years.
