Few spots on Lake George carry as much frontier history as Rogers' Rock, a rocky shoreline landmark named for Robert Rogers and his Rangers, who operated in the region during the French and Indian War. This glass negative, made sometime between 1900 and 1910, shows a boat house at the rock while the lake was becoming a popular summer resort destination. The Detroit Publishing Company, which produced many scenic views of American resorts and landmarks, recorded the scene as part of its travel photography. Notice the motorboats listed among the subjects, a sign of how pleasure traffic on the lake was changing in the early twentieth century.
