The steamer *Sagamore* pulling away from Rogers' Rock Landing anchors this view, with the wooded shoreline of Lake George rising behind it. The rock takes its name from Major Robert Rogers, whose rangers used the lakeside outcrop during the French and Indian War in the 1750s. By the late 1800s, steamboats carried summer visitors between the lake's hotels and landings, and the Detroit Publishing Company produced views like this one to promote travel and resorts. The glass negative dates from roughly 1890 to 1910, when the Adirondack lakes were becoming a popular retreat for vacationers.
