Hearts Bay, seen from an upper cottage near Rogers' Rock, shows a quiet stretch of Lake George during the years when the region was a popular summer destination for well-to-do visitors from New York and elsewhere. The rock takes its name from Major Robert Rogers, the colonial ranger who used the lake as a military route during the French and Indian War. This view is an 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers traveled widely around 1900 to 1910 recording resorts, waterways and scenery. Worth noticing are the wooded shoreline and the Adirondack peaks rising beyond the water.
