The Ten Eyck was one of Albany's prominent downtown hotels, and this c1908 view shows it at the turn of the twentieth century, when the state capital drew legislators, lobbyists, and business travelers. The picture survives as two nearly identical 8 x 10 inch glass dry plate negatives, which the Detroit Publishing Company made as part of its large catalog of American city and landscape views. The company's photographers worked across the country, and their images document how urban hotels and streetscapes looked before the automobile reshaped them. The two plates were given to the Library of Congress by the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1949.
