This view shows Redbrook, a village in the Wye Valley near the border of Monmouthshire, as it looked in the 1890s. The print was made with the photochrom process, a early color method developed in Switzerland that produced vivid tints from a set of separate printing stones. The Detroit Publishing Company later issued many such views under license in the United States, and this one appears in its 1905 catalog of English scenes. Redbrook's riverside setting and long ties to metalworking make it a useful glimpse of a small Welsh-border community at the end of the nineteenth century.
