A school band bearing the name "Hoover & Drury" is the particular subject of this glass negative, dated May 9, 1929, about two months after Herbert Hoover took office as president. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded the city's public life in the early twentieth century, made the image, and the title comes from the company's own notes, which the Library of Congress lists as unverified. Viewers should also notice the streaks and blemishes on the plate, which come from deterioration in its original coatings.
