A school band bearing the names Hoover and Drury High School is the subject of this 1929 glass negative, made on May 9, only weeks after Herbert Hoover took office as president in March. The record does not explain the pairing of the two names, so any connection to the White House is a matter of timing rather than documented fact. The plate comes from the National Photo Company collection, a commercial studio whose images record parades, schools and civic life in the early twentieth century. Viewers may notice streaks and blemishes, which result from the natural deterioration of the original coatings.
