Herbert Hoover appears with a group linked to Central High School in this 1929 image, the year he took office as president. The glass negative comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded officials, public events and everyday life in the capital from about 1907 to 1932. The title is unverified, so the exact occasion and school location are uncertain, but the date places the sitting at the start of Hoover's term. Streaks and blemishes on the negative come from deterioration of its original coatings, which affects some of the finer detail.
