Grange-over-Sands sits on the northern shore of Morecambe Bay, where the Kent estuary meets wide tidal sands that are exposed at low tide. The town grew into a genteel seaside resort after the railway reached it in the late 1850s, and by the 1890s visitors came for the sea air and the views across the bay toward the Lake District hills. This photochrom print, one of the Swiss-made color prints in the Views of England series, shows that expanse of sand in the years when the process was prized for its soft, hand-tinted look.
