The Chicago Temple, the Gothic Revival tower of the First Methodist Episcopal Church at Clark and Washington, stands out in this poster by its pointed spire rising above the Loop. The building was completed in 1924, and its design by the firm Holabird & Roche made it one of the notable church-and-office combinations of the city's rapid building boom in the 1920s. Posters like this one, issued by the Chicago Rapid Transit Company, used landmarks such as the Temple to encourage riders to reach downtown by the elevated and subway lines.
