This color lithograph advertises The Chicago Morning News at two cents a copy, a low price meant to win readers from pricier papers. The paper was an early name of what later became the Chicago Daily News, founded in 1875 as a cheap paper for a broad readership. The poster was printed by Shober & Carqueville, a Chicago lithography firm that produced many of the city's commercial posters in the 1880s. Its subject, newspaper carriers in Chicago, points to the street-level sales and delivery networks that carried papers to readers in a fast-growing city.
