The Department of Agriculture, catalogued under the abbreviated label "Agrl. Dept.", is the subject of this view of the capital. The National Photo Company, a commercial firm that sold scenes of Washington to tourists and postcard buyers in the early twentieth century, made the glass negative, which is dated to about 1921 or 1922. The department's headquarters stood on the National Mall, and its main building was a familiar landmark for visitors. Look closely at the surface, where streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of the original coating are visible.
