A delivery van bound for the Treasury Department in Washington is the subject of this 1914 glass negative, though the title comes from unverified data on the negative sleeve. The National Photo Company, which worked in the capital from about 1907 to 1932, recorded government buildings and street life for sale as postcards and views, so its plates show how federal business and city traffic looked in that era. Glass negatives of this age often show streaks and surface blemishes from deterioration of the original coating, and this one is no exception. Herbert A. French gave the plate to the Library of Congress in 1947.
