A glass negative of Ruth Hamilton Moore, dated January 4, 1922, opens this group of images from the National Photo Company Collection. The title comes from the studio's own notes on the negative sleeve and has not been independently verified, so the name is best read as the studio's label. The National Photo Company was a Washington, D.C., commercial studio whose work, made on glass plates, documents the city's people and public life in the early twentieth century. The glass has developed streaks and other blemishes from the gradual breakdown of its original coating, which is visible in the image itself. The collection came to the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947.
