Dated February 23, 1926, this glass negative records two women, Miss Ruth Bennett and Miss Sylvia Clairus, with Bennett identified as a representative of someone named McMillian of South Carolina. The names come from data the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve and have not been independently verified. The Washington, D.C., firm photographed many visitors, officials and private individuals in the capital during the 1910s and 1920s, and this negative came to the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947. Viewers should note the streaks and blemishes across the glass, which result from natural deterioration of the original coatings.
