Two women who had just taken seats in Congress appear in this glass negative, dated June 4, 1929. Ruth Bryan Owen, daughter of orator William Jennings Bryan, represented Florida, while Ruth Hanna McCormick represented Illinois, and both were elected in 1928. The National Photo Company, based in Washington, D.C., documented many officials and public figures of this period. Faint streaks and blemishes on the glass come from the natural deterioration of its original coatings.
