Three baseball names appear in this October 4, 1924 record: Sisler, Ruth and Cobb, though the title comes from unverified data, so the exact lineup deserves a closer look. George Sisler was then one of the American League's leading first basemen with the St. Louis Browns, and Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth were among the decade's most famous players. The negative comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio whose 1910s and 1920s pictures document sports and public life. Given as a gift in 1947, the glass plate shows the streaks and blemishes that aging coatings often leave behind.
