Johnson's mother and wife are the people in this view, taken at the 1924 World Series, when the Washington Senators were playing for their first championship and Johnson was their veteran ace. The image comes from a glass negative made by the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented the city's public life and events in the early twentieth century. The title was supplied by the company and is noted in the record as unverified, so the identification of the women rests on that original data. Faint streaks and blemishes on the negative are typical of aging emulsion and add to its look as a document of the period.
