Ambassador Daeschner is pictured decorating a group of flyers, an event recorded on May 7, 1925, by the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented official life in the capital for decades. Aviation was front-page news in the mid-1920s, not long after the U.S. Army's 1924 round-the-world flight had drawn wide public attention, so honors for airmen carried real public meaning. The glass negative shows streaks and surface blemishes from deterioration of its original coating, a common condition for plates of this age.
