Italian aviator Francesco de Pinedo, listed here as "Comdi de Pinedo," is pictured with Italian Ambassador Giacomo de Martino in April 1927. De Pinedo was one of Italy's best-known airmen after a series of long-distance seaplane flights, and his 1927 visit to the United States brought official attention in Washington. The National Photo Company, which recorded public life in the capital in the early twentieth century, made the original glass negative. Its surface shows streaks and blemishes from the deterioration of the coatings, which are visible in the image.
