Luis Firpo, the Argentine heavyweight known as the Wild Bull of the Pampas, stands beside Honorio Pueyrredon, Argentina's ambassador to the United States. Firpo drew wide attention in 1923 when he knocked Jack Dempsey through the ropes at the Polo Grounds in New York. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded officials and public events in the 1910s and 1920s, made the negative. The year in the record is estimated from neighboring negatives, so the July 25 date is approximate.
