Little is recorded about this sitter beyond the name Joe Martina Jr., which the National Photo Company supplied on the negative sleeve and which has not been independently verified. The glass plate was exposed on July 21, 1924, during the years when the company was producing commercial and portrait work in Washington, D.C. The glass shows streaks and other blemishes from the natural breakdown of its original coatings, a common condition for negatives of this age that also gives the image a worn, textured quality worth noticing.
