Taken on January 17, 1922, this glass negative portrays Hubert Work, a Colorado physician and Republican politician who was then active in national party affairs. The National Photo Company, based in Washington, D.C., produced many portraits of officials and public figures in the early twentieth century. The image survives on glass, so it may show streaks and blemishes from the slow breakdown of its original coating, a common trait of aging plates that adds a textured quality to the portrait.
