Dick Mansfield is the subject of this November 1922 view, which shows him giving a lecture on safety work. The picture survives as a glass negative from the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio whose large holdings document the city and its people in the early twentieth century. Safety talks like this were a common part of the Safety First movement, which pushed employers and workers to reduce accidents on the job during the 1910s and 1920s. The record notes that the plate shows streaks and blemishes from deterioration of its original coating, so some marks in the image come from the negative itself rather than the scene.
