Its headline mimics a soda-fountain pitch, promoting jumbo malts as "new" and "different" before urging viewers to follow the parade, a playful hook for a theater campaign. Produced in 1936 for the Federal theater Project, one of the arts programs of the Works Progress Administration, the poster was printed in color by silkscreen, a method the WPA poster units used to make eye-catching publicity cheaply. The Los Angeles project aimed to bring live stage shows to working audiences during the Depression, and posters like this one, borrowing the tricks of commercial advertising, were meant to fill the streets and draw crowds.
