Broadway Wharf was one of the working piers on San Francisco's bayfront, and this view survives only as one half of a stereograph card. Issued as number 301 in the Gems of California Scenery series, it shows the waterfront in the years after the Gold Rush had turned a small settlement into a major Pacific port. Viewed through a stereoscope, the paired images fused into a single three-dimensional scene, making such cards a popular parlor entertainment in the 1860s.
