Norman Trevor, the English-born actor who built a long career on the American stage and later in silent films, is the subject of this color linocut, which was printed as plate 36 in *Stage Folk*, a 1922 book of theatrical caricatures by Alfred Frueh. Frueh, a New York artist who drew for the city's magazines, used the book to turn working performers into exaggerated likenesses. The image is signed on the block, so the cut is the artist's own work. Its appeal lies in how a few bold lines and flat colors capture an actor's presence, a style that made stage caricature popular in New York in the early 1920s.
