Nat Goodwin, a longtime leading comedian of the American stage who died in 1919, appears here in a color linocut by Al Frueh, signed directly on the block. The print is plate 29 in *Stage Folk*, a 1922 book of caricatures in which Frueh portrayed performers of the New York theater. The linocut medium gives the figure bold, simplified shapes and flat areas of color, a graphic punch that suits a sitter known for his wit and theatrical flair.
