Upper Twin Lake is one of a pair of mountain lakes in Lake County, Colorado, set in the high country that drains toward the Arkansas River valley. This color print was made around 1898 by the Detroit Publishing Company using the photochrom process, a Swiss method that layered several lithographic stones over a photograph to produce vivid color. Such prints were popular souvenirs and helped introduce Colorado's scenery to eastern audiences during the railroad-driven tourism boom of the late 1800s. Its copyright deposit at the Library of Congress preserves an early record of how the region was pictured for travelers.
