Upper Twin Lake lies in the Arkansas River valley of central Colorado, with the Sawatch Range rising above its shore, and this view shows that scene as it looked around 1898. The picture is a photochrom, a color process developed in Switzerland that the Detroit Publishing Company used for its American views. Each print was built from several lithographic stones, one for each color, so the blues of the water and the greens of the slopes were layered by hand. The copy held by the Library of Congress was deposited for copyright and is numbered in the company's catalog.
