The title names Cremieux, which most likely refers to Adolphe Crémieux, the French lawyer and politician. Because the print is a photographic copy of an engraving, it reproduces an earlier printed likeness rather than a sitting before a camera, a common practice when engraved portraits circulated widely in books and newspapers. Crémieux served as justice minister in the provisional government of 1848 and is remembered above all for the Crémieux Decree of 1870, which granted French citizenship to Algerian Jews. The record gives no date, so the identification rests on the title alone.
