The caption card identifies the sitter as Dr. Otto Bauer and credits H. Noack of Berlin as the photoprinter, but it records no date. The name is shared by several people, and the best known Otto Bauer was an Austrian Social Democrat active between the world wars, though the card does not confirm that this is him. Berlin studio portraits of this kind were usually made for sitters and their families, so the picture is valuable mainly for its formal style and as a record of who was photographed. Until other sources confirm the identity, treat the name as unverified.
