Anton Dolin, the British dancer, is the subject of this portrait, a photoprint made by Claude Harris of London. Dolin was born Sydney Francis Patrick Chippendall Healey-Kay and took the stage name Anton Dolin after joining the Diaghilev Ballet, where he became a noted male dancer and partner to major ballerinas. The record gives no date, so the sitting can only be placed within his long career, which spanned the 1920s through the 1950s. Harris's studio portraits of performers of this kind were often made for publicity and program use.
