Sir George Howard Darwin, the Cambridge astronomer and mathematician, is shown here in a halftone reproduction of a photoprint that appeared in *The Observatory* in January 1913. Darwin died in December 1912, so the portrait likely accompanied the journal's notices of his death. He was the second son of naturalist Charles Darwin and held the Plumian chair of astronomy at Cambridge, where his work on the tides and the Moon's orbit was widely respected. The record's caption details are unverified, but the image is a useful record of how a leading British scientist was presented to the astronomical community at the time.
