From above, this view of the Hiram Walker & Sons works in Walkerville, Ontario, shows the distillery offices, malt houses and grain elevator laid out together, as they appeared around April 10, 1911. Hiram Walker established the distilling business in the 1850s, and the town that grew around it took his name. The Detroit Publishing Company, which issued the print, produced commercial views of cities and industrial sites across North America in the early 1900s. The malt houses and grain elevator show the raw-material side of distilling, which began with grain that had to be malted, stored and shipped.
