A color lithograph with no printed words, this British poster shows biplanes above an open area where a message was evidently meant to go. Its record dates it to 1918, the last year of the First World War, when Britain's air arm was growing quickly and posters were a common way to rally public support for the war effort. The printer, Hill, Siffken & Co. of the Grafton Works in Holloway, London, produced wartime posters of this kind, and the title "Biplanes" was devised by Library staff rather than taken from the original. The blank space suggests the design was meant to be overprinted or adapted, which makes it a useful example of how such material was put to use.
