Lord Kitchener, the Secretary of State for War, is the figure at the center of this 1915 color lithograph, and its title, "Lord Kitchener calls for more men," makes his role as recruiter plain. He had taken over the War Office in August 1914 and became the best-known face of appeals for volunteers as Britain's army expanded. The poster was printed in London by Hill, Siffken & Co., and its closing line, "God save the king," ties the call to service with loyalty to the crown.
