Few recruiting posters from 1915 address a single religious community as directly as this one, which pairs the Magen David, the six-pointed Star of David, with British flags and urges Jewish men to enlist in any regiment. Its slogan, that Britain has been all she could be to Jews and Jews will be all they can be to Britain, makes an argument about loyalty and reciprocity at a time when many Jewish immigrants in London still faced suspicion. Printed in London by Hill, Siffken & Co., the lithograph belongs to the voluntary recruiting drive that preceded conscription in Britain in 1916, and it is a useful reminder that Jewish men served across the British forces during the war.
