Here the recruiting appeal is carried by Saint George, the Roman-era martyr who became England's patron saint, shown with a dragon instead of a human enemy. Printed in London in 1915, when Britain still relied on volunteers before conditional conscription began in 1916, the color lithograph urges men to enlist at once. Its legendary framing presented the war as a moral struggle against a monstrous foe, a tactic common in the period's posters. The Library of Congress holds it as poster no. 108, with a provenance tracing to a German archive of contemporary history and publishing.
