Few recruiting posters of 1915 place the national flag so squarely at the center of the appeal, urging men of the empire to rally round it and enlist that day. Its headline asks for another half million men at once, a sign of how fast the volunteer army was being drawn down in the first year and a half of the war. Issued by the Central London Recruiting Depot and printed in color by Merser & Sons, it dates from the months before Parliament brought in conscription in early 1916, when posters like this were still the main way to fill the ranks.
