This 1914 recruiting poster, issued under the name of the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, carries the call "Britons! Your country needs you," and its catalog record lists maps among its subjects, so the design evidently draws on a map to make its appeal. Early in the war, Britain relied on volunteers, and posters like this one, printed as color lithographs by the London firm Saunders & Cullingham, were pasted across towns to urge men to enlist. The poster is one of a numbered series, which suggests the committee produced many designs with a shared message aimed at a broad civilian public.
