Follow me! Your country needs you" speaks to the viewer in the first person, turning the poster into a direct summons rather than a simple portrait. Issued by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee and dated to 1914, it belongs to the early wave of British recruiting campaigns that followed the outbreak of war in August of that year, when the new army needed volunteers in large numbers. The color lithograph was printed in London by Hill, Siffken & Co., and is catalogued as poster number 11 in its series. Posters like this were pasted on hoardings, station walls and public buildings, where they reached men on their way to work.
