Recruiting for Britain's war effort reached beyond Europe, and this poster shows it. It asks Jamaican men aged 19 to 35 to enlist at once, closing with "God save the King!" and printed by The Gleaner Co. in Kingston, the island's leading newspaper. Jamaica sent volunteers to the British West Indies Regiment, which was raised in 1915 and later served in the Middle East and on the Western Front. The poster's direct address and its appeal to duty reflect the appeals used across the empire during the early years of the war.
