Unlike the illustrated recruiting posters of the period, this one uses words alone, with a slogan that casts national strength as something every reader shares. The phrase "and yours" turns a patriotic appeal into a personal one. The Parliamentary Recruiting Committee issued posters like this in 1914, when Britain still relied on volunteers, before conscription began in 1916. Its numbered series, labeled poster no. 28, shows how quickly the government moved to fill the ranks.
